Amino will add nearly half a million mental health providers across psychology, psychiatry, social work, marriage counseling, general counseling, and more, to help users easily find in-network care options.

On January 14th, Amino will add nearly half a million mental health providers across psychology, psychiatry, social work, marriage counseling, general counseling, and more, to help users easily find in-network care options. This is phase 1 of a multi-phased approach that will bring new clarity and access to the mental health care landscape.

What’s new?

Amino’s upcoming release will increase members’ access to mental health care, regardless of their understanding of the mental health care landscape.

For every search related to mental health, Amino will first prompt the user to address whether they are experiencing an immediate crisis. If they are, Amino will quickly surface crisis-related resources, such as national hotlines, 911, and others. In the event that there is not a crisis, users can use Amino to search for mental healthcare in three different ways:

1. Member searches “mental health” as a topic

In most instances, a person seeking help does not know what type of practitioner they should seek out, or how to classify their own symptoms. When people search for “mental health” as a broad search term, as opposed to seeking out a specific specialty, Amino will surface psychotherapists as the first course of action. Psychotherapists are equipped to evaluate the user and determine the best care plan moving forward, whether that be to recommend a counselor, a psychiatrist for medication, or other individualized care options.

2. Member searches for a specific mental health condition

Some users might have more familiarity with the specific conditions they need help with. Users can enter these conditions (i.e. depression, bipolar disorder, substance abuse, etc.) into Amino as their search topic. Amino will surface practitioners that are best suited for that specific condition.

3. Member searches for a specific type of healthcare practitioner

If a plan member knows the specific type of practitioner they’re looking for (i.e. psychiatrist vs social worker), they can include the specialty in their search, and Amino will surface a comprehensive list of providers that meet the search specifications. Please note that, as many mental health providers do not accept insurance, Amino will highlight whether the practitioner is in-network.

Additionally, this release enables members to filter mental health providers by gender. In all cases, in-network providers will be surfaced in order of geo-proximity to the defined search location.

Amino recognizes the importance of mental health and will continue to expand our functionality to better serve mental health care needs.
