New release promotes LGBTQ+ supportive healthcare

January 4, 2024

We are excited to announce that members can now find providers who are knowledgeable and sensitive to the unique needs of LGBTQ+ people.

What’s new?

Amino recently partnered with GLMA: Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ+ Equality, a national organization committed to ensuring health equity for LGBTQ+ communities. The partnership enables us to incorporate more inclusivity data into our Guidance platform.

Powered by data from GLMA’s LGBTQ+ Healthcare Directory, the fastest growing database of providers who self-report their commitment to equality for LGBTQ+ patients, Amino now includes an “LGBTQ+ supportive” badge on over 1,500 providers in our platform. This list will continue to grow as the GLMA directory expands.

Members can filter results to see providers with the “LGBTQ+ supportive” badge or perform a quick search for these providers from the dashboard. Additionally, “LGBTQ+ supportive” profiles display the preferred pronouns of the provider.

Why did we make these updates?

Healthcare disparities for the LGBTQ+ community are widespread and negatively impact the quality and accessibility of care for this population. Over 15 percent of LGBTQ+ adults reported discrimination in healthcare encounters, and more than one in eight live in states where healthcare professionals can legally refuse to treat them.

Our new features allow members to find and evaluate LGBTQ+ supportive providers across thousands of care needs. While these healthcare disparities require systemic change, this latest product release empowers individuals with more information to better navigate the healthcare system.
